'We’re here to show you the real story' SPD pushes back on criticism, highlights work being done
“We know the narrative about our city isn’t always fair – but we’re here to show you the real story.”
The department goes on to say that one of their primary objectives has been tackling gun violence with the removal of firearms from individuals who possess them illegally.
According to SPD, illegally held firearms are the leading contributors to violent crime in the city.
“A firearm by itself isn’t dangerous, but in the hands of the wrong person, it can become deadly. That’s why in 2025 alone, SPD has seized nearly 1,000 illegally possessed firearms from our streets. The numbers don’t lie—progress is being made.”
The efforts have been supported by the Violent Crimes Abatement Team, a specialized team dedicated to keeping unlawful weapons off the streets of Shreveport.
“We recognize that there is still much work ahead, but we remain committed to enhancing community safety,” a department spokesperson stated.
The SPD pledges to continue its mission tirelessly, assuring the community that its safety is a top priority.
