Vermilion Parish enhances surveillance with new cameras

VERMILION PARISH, La. (KLFY) — The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office has implemented over 70 new cameras throughout the parish in an attempt enhance safety.

These cameras include license plate readers and security camera trailers, designed to aid in tracking vehicles and deterring criminal activity.

“If it was up to me, we would have a camera on every corner,” said Sheriff Eddie Langlinais.

Langlinais explained that the cameras serve investigative purposes and are intended to deter criminals by increasing the visibility of law enforcement technology.

The project began in July 2024 and involves placing cameras in various locations across the parish, although specific locations have not been disclosed.

While some members of the public have raised questions about the new cameras, the sheriff emphasized their role in supporting safety efforts throughout Vermilion Parish.
