ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) — A St. George man has been found guilty by a jury of kidnapping a woman and her three children and taking them across state lines to Nevada in 2024.
David Gene Remley, 37, was found guilty of three counts of child kidnapping, one count of aggravated kidnapping, unauthorized possession of a firearm or motor vehicle, assault, and three counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child.
On August 19, 2024, Remley kidnapped Brittany Deal and her three children after he picked the children up from daycare. The next day, St. George Police requested the assistance of Nevada Highway Patrol in finding the vehicle involved in the kidnapping.
At 12:30 p.m. on August 20, a Nevada state trooper found the vehicle on I-80 near Winnemucca, Nevada. The trooper conducted a traffic stop, and Deal and her children were in the vehicle. Remley was taken into custody without incident.
Remley was previously convicted of assault in 2022. At the time, there was a standing protective order between Remley and Deal stemming from a recent family fight, according to the St. George Police Department.
Remley was also charged with nine counts of violating a protective order, a third-degree felony, in November 2024. That case is still pending.
Remley’s sentencing is scheduled for December 11.
