SALT LAKE COUNTY (ABC4) — A 28-year-old man has been charged with several counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Jared Andrew Miller, from Salt Lake County, has been charged with ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor (second-degree felonies), after allegedly possessing distributing explicit photos of a 17-year-old.
According to court documents, a 17-year-old told law enforcement that “her friend” Miller asked her to send photos for him to sell through a social media application, with them splitting proceeds 50/50.
The victim reportedly sent Miller multiple photos and two videos between September and November of 2023, and law enforcement conducted a search of her phone. In most of them, her face was cropped out or not visible. However, the photos and videos did reportedly show the victim’s breasts and buttocks, and one photo showed the victim’s mouth and nose ring.
Additionally, the victim told law enforcement that she made over $100 the first time Miller sold the photos online. After that night, Miller reportedly asked for more photos, to which the victim said no.
Miller allegedly asked, “What about me?” and offered the victim $100 for a photo. The victim sent him a photo that she had previously sent him, to which he said that she needed to give something “better than that.”
When the victim refused, Miller allegedly threatened to kill himself. He then messaged her on a different social media application and asked what her “sexual fantasy” was. The victim then reportedly sent him photos with her buttocks visible.
The victim told law enforcement that each time she attempted to cut contact with Miller, he would threaten to blackmail her or threaten to kill himself.
Miller is scheduled to appear in court in December for an initial hearing. If convicted, he could face between one to 15 years in prison for each count of sexual exploitation.
