Danville salon owner devastated after fire destroys business, neighboring shops

DANVILLE, Calif. (KRON) — The owner of a Danville salon is trying to pick up the pieces after a fire destroyed her business and several others. It broke out just before 10 p.m. last Monday at a building on East Prospect Avenue.

“Fire came over our roof. So we’re all water and smoke damage. Our whole roof has all caved in. All of our stuff is smashed. We’re just destroyed on the inside,” said Dana Johnson, the owner of Heart & Hustle Salon.

Heart & Hustle Salon, a neighboring boutique, a gift shop, and an eyelash studio were all destroyed in the fire.

Johnson says she and her stylists lost their place of work and all of the tools that make their careers possible.

“You know, us as hairstylists, we use all of our stuff every single day able to recover anything,” said Johnson. “So the amount of money that we’re losing by having to re-buy everything and all that insurance, I know takes a very long time. So, you know, we’re devastated on so many different levels.”

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The total loss for the salon is estimated at more than $50,000. Johnson says the owner of the building wants them to return, but it’ll likely be a year before they can reopen and help the team get back on their feet.
