Wanted burglary suspect captured in East Feliciana Parish after foot chase
According to the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office (EFPSO), a deputy spotted Derrick McKneely, 50, of Wilson, driving along LA 19 near LA 10 (McManus Crossing) on Oct. 29. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, McKneely fled on foot into an overgrown area.
Deputies established a perimeter and called the Dixon Correctional Institute (DCI) Chase Team, as well as officers from the Jackson Police Department and Zachary Police Department for help. The DCI Chase Team arrived and used tracking dogs to locate McKneely hiding in a nearby gully. He was taken into custody without further incident, EFPSO said.
McKneely faces several charges, including speeding (84 in a 55 mph zone), driving under suspension, resisting an officer, simple burglary, and felony theft.
The sheriff’s office said McKneely became a burglary suspect in August 2025 after deputies posted Ring camera photos of him on Facebook and asked the public for help identifying him. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Aug. 27.
Sheriff Jeffrey Travis thanked the public for their help, as well as Warden E. Dustin Bickham, the DCI Chase Team, and officers from Jackson and Zachary for their roles in McKneely’s capture.
