The Minnesota Vikings have added some depth in the quarterback room following Carson Wentz’s injury, adding John Wolford to the practice squad.

Wolford is in his fourth season in the NFL, having played for the New York Jets, Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars. He also played briefly in the Alliance of American Football for the Arizona Hotshots, where he was the starting QB before the AAF folded during its inaugural season.
During the 30-year-old’s time in the NFL, Wolford has appeared in seven regular-season games, including four starts.
Wolford’s addition to the Minnesota practice squad will be a reunion with his coaches. During the 2020-21 season, Wolford was coached by Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell and Offensive Coordinator Wes Phillips, both of whom were part of the Rams’ coaching staff.
The Vikings plan to start J.J. McCarthy at quarterback against the Lions on Sunday, making his return to the field after the second-year quarterback returned from a high-ankle sprain injury earlier this season.
