According to a news release, students in grades six through eight from public, private, charter, and home schools are invited to submit a four-paragraph essay outlining an idea to improve their community. Top essay finalists will move on to a live, quiz-style competition that tests civics knowledge and public speaking skills.
The regional round will be held on May 19, 2026, at Louisiana State University, Shreveport. The Greater Shreveport Chamber will also partner with the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry to host the state competition later in the summer, also at LSUS.
Winners will advance to the national championship in Washington, D.C., in fall 2026. The national champion will receive a $100,000 contribution to an education savings plan, while the Louisiana state winner could earn a $5,000 donation for their school. Essay submissions are now open at www.shreveportchamber.org.
