SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A man has been arrested after allegedly using a rock to smash car windows in downtown Salt Lake City, damaging 20 cars.
Larkie Barker, 43, was arrested and if charged, is facing property damage or destruction of an amount greater than $5,000, which is a second-degree felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on October 28, police were called to the area of 200 S and 400 W. The witness reported an adult man, later identified as Barker, breaking car windows using a rock and also told police that they had “detained” Barker.
When police arrived, Barker was standing on the corner of the intersection with his hands raised. He was standing next to a large rock and the witness.
Barker was detained and handcuffed, and another witness stopped and told police that they had witnessed Barker smashing windows of other vehicles in the area. Police reportedly have video where Barker can be seen holding onto “something that appeared to be heavy” before throwing it at one of the vehicles.
Overall, investigators discovered 20 vehicles in the area that Barker allegedly damaged.
After his arrest, Barker allegedly made comments to officers that he is trying to get back to Virginia, and because of that, the arresting officer requested he be held without bail.
Barker was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on October 29, and he is being held without bail.
