“Carlos was one that could make you laugh. He’s going to say silly things. He loved music and people. Carlos had a heart,” said Alene White, his mother.
The family of Carlos Dewayne Hill shares stories of his life.
“He was loved, respected, he was joyful,” said Frank White, his stepfather.
“We are such a tight-knit family. The good thing is that Carlos got to come to our family reunion this year. We had 219 in attendance,” said Reatha Robinson, his aunt.
Carlos was 48-years-old. Marshall police are investigating his death as a homicide. Detectives said he was shot and killed Sunday evening around 9 p.m. in the 1900 block of Bean Street. His family said this act of gun violence was senseless.
“I pray that gun violence stops. That people learn a way to get along in the community. So people can have a safe place to go to,” Robinson said.
They are hoping to raise awareness of his death in order to find his killer. The family wants people to know that they are hurting, but are praying for the family of the shooter.
“We are praying for that family. For whoever did this. Because we realize vengeance belongs to the Lord, not to us. We want that family to know we are praying for them,” White said.
Their strong family has dealt with gun violence in the past. They want justice and closure for Carlos. While hoping more can be done locally to deter gun violence.
“We are going to move ahead by staying together as family. Remember the good times we had with Carlos,” White said.
Marshall police said the suspect fled the area before officers arrived. Chief Carruth extends his deepest condolences to the family and say his officers are working diligently identify and locate the person responsible.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Marshall police (903) 935-4575.
