Former ISU teacher’s assistant arrested for alleged threats against Donald Trump

EL PASO, Ill. (WMBD) — A man was arrested for allegedly making threats against President Donald Trump.

Derek Lopez, 27, of El Paso, was arrested on a federal warrant for making alleged threats against the president, a post on the El Paso Police Department’s Facebook page said.

Previously, he was also a graduate student and a teacher’s assistant at Illinois State University.

Just before 7:40 p.m. on Oct. 28, officers with the El Paso Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a traffic stop at the 600 block of West Main Street.

The driver, Lopez, was arrested and taken to the El Paso Police Department, where he was questioned by the FBI as well as Secret Service agents, the post said.

Lopez was then booked into the Woodford County Jail, where he remained as of Wednesday morning.

He was also arrested on Oct. 17 after “disrupting an informational tabling event.”
