GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Drivers heading north on I-85 through Gastonia should expect major delays after a crash near Exit 27.

According to Belmont Police and the N.C. Department of Transportation, the wreck has shut down all northbound lanes, just past Betty Drive.

The closure began just before 4 p.m. and is expected to last until at least 5:52 p.m.

Traffic is backed up in the area, and officials are urging drivers to avoid I-85 North if possible.

Detour: Drivers can take Exit 26, turn left on McAdenville Road, right on NC-7 East, left on US 74 East, and then left on NC 273 North (Park Street) to return to I-85 North.
