1 killed, 1 injured in stabbing on east side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — One person was killed and another was injured in a stabbing on the east side of Indianapolis Tuesday morning.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called around 11 a.m. Tuesday to the 1600 block of Englewood Drive on report of a person stabbed. This is a residential area near 16th Street and Shadeland Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers reportedly found an adult male inside a residence with injuries consistent with stab wounds. Medics transported the man from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition. IMPD confirmed that the man later died at the hospital.

After they located the stabbing victim on Englewood Drive, officers found a second individual who had been injured during the incident in the 1600 block of Shadeland Avenue. The second victim, who IMPD as identified as an adult male, had cuts on his hands. Medics transported the man to an area hospital in stable condition after police found him.

IMPD indicated that investigators later detained the man they found on Shadeland Avenue. After consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, police released the man from their custody.

During their investigation, detectives determined the stabbing was likely the result of some sort of disturbance between family members that had taken place inside a home located along Englewood Drive.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office and Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency assisted IMPD with its investigation of the stabbing. MCCO will help police determine the decedent’s exact manner and cause of death. The coroner’s office will also publicly identify the man who died in the stabbing once his family has been properly notified of his death.
