A woman who killed her 4-year-old son in a crash earlier this year in Chisago County will serve a four-year sentence for the crime.
Ashlee Rose Klapperick, 36, of Mora, pleaded guilty in August to counts of criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation in connection with the crash in Nessel Township.
A judge sentenced her on Monday to 48 months in prison with credit for 224 days served. Sentences of 13 and 15 months for Klapperick’s criminal vehicular operation convictions were ordered to be served concurrently with her four-year prison term.

Charging documents state Klapperick was driving with her children, ages 3 and 4, the evening of March 14 when she veered over the center line and hit a minivan head-on.
Klapperick’s 4-year-old son, Anthony Sobaski, died from his injuries. Her other child was treated at the hospital and released to child protective services.
The driver of the minivan and her three children all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Klapperick told investigators that while she was driving, she was doing “squeezy blinks,” and after one of these blinks, the minivan appeared before her. She also admitted that she had consumed methamphetamine and marijuana within two days of the crash.
A deputy who was trained as a drug recognition expert believed it was more likely that Klapperick had smoked meth within the past 24 hours and was coming off a high.
A glass pipe that appeared to be for smoking meth was found inside Klapperick’s car, as was a tin with a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the criminal complaint.
Prosecutors say a blood sample taken from Klapperick tested positive for THC, amphetamine and methamphetamine.
