Salem police seize Supreme fanny pack, cocaine, gun in domestic violence investigation
Around 9:30 p.m. Monday, Salem police officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a Southeast Salem home.
According to police, 40-year-old suspect Jeffrey Helmer menaced the victim with a knife and a gun earlier in the night before fleeing the scene.
Helmer was later found at a bar on Lancaster Drive NE and taken into custody without incident, Salem Police Department said, noting a search of his vehicle led authorities to find a handgun believed to have been used in the menacing incident along with evidence of cocaine manufacturing.
Helmer was lodged in jail on several charges including domestic violence menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, delivery and manufacturing of a controlled substance – cocaine, along with additional drug offenses.
