On Tuesday, Sapastian Year, 23, of Renton, Washington, was arraigned on first-degree murder and harassment in two separate incidents, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.
Year had been a prisoner in the Clackamas County Jail’s disciplinary housing area, sharing a cell with 26-year-old Reece Warren Richeson, of Cedar Hills. The assault happened on Oct. 18 after the two prisoners had shared a cell for over a week.
Richeson was taken to the hospital after the assault and died in the early morning of October 21.
Year is also accused of harassment from a separate confrontation with a different prisoner on Oct. 9, prior to being housed with Richeson the following day.
Both Year and Richeson had been moved to the disciplinary housing area based on unrelated prior misconduct that the jail considered severe.
Year, who remains in custody in the Clackamas County Jail, was originally booked on Sept. 26, facing two counts of second-degree criminal mischief and violation of a court stalking protection order.
Richeson had been booked into the Clackamas County Jail on Oct. 5, facing first-degree criminal mischief.
