Music icon Sting to headline Super Bowl concert series in SF
Sting’s appearance kicks off “Super Bowl LX Studio 60,” a weekend-long concert series being mounted at the venue by On Location, the official hospitality provider of the NFL. The former Police frontman will be joined by his longtime guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas for the concert, which will see him perform celebrated hits from his extensive catalog.
“Witnessing a larger-than-life icon like Sting perform in an intimate venue such as The Palace of Fine Arts on Super Bowl weekend is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Paul Caine, President of On Location. “The Super Bowl is more than just a game, and On Location delivers more than just a ticket. Through incredible hospitality and unique experiences, we bring fans closer than ever to the weekend-long celebration of sport, music, food, and culture that the Super Bowl has become globally recognized for.”
“We’re thrilled to partner with On Location and deliver a one-of-a-kind experience for fans that adds to the unmatched level of excitement and creative energy so synonymous with Super Bowl week,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL executive vice president of events, international and club business. “Sting is a legendary artist with a timeless catalog, and we know fans will have an incredible time seeing his performance ahead of the biggest game of the year.”
A prolific singer/songwriter and bass guitarist, Sting burst onto the scene in the late 1970s as the leader of rock trio, The Police, along with guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland. After the band’s demise in the early 1980s, Sting went on to a successful solo career, pioneering an eclectic musical style that includes rock, pop, reggae, jazz, worldbeat and classical.
Through his combined work as a solo artist and a member of The Police, Sting has sold nearly 100 million albums.
