BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office traffic stop early Saturday led to the arrest of a 24-year-old Oaktown man after deputies said they found two firearms and multiple types of drugs in a pickup bearing a stolen license plate, according to a news release from the MCSO.

Deputies stopped a 2005 red Ford F-250 at 1:17 a.m. Oct. 25 in Monroe County after learning the truck displayed a plate reported stolen out of Sullivan County, Indiana. The driver, identified as Dawson Kelm, 24, of Oaktown, was detained during the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

While Kelm was detained, deputies located a firearm on him. K-9 Figo conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted to narcotics, leading to the recovery of fentanyl pills, alprazolam pills, acetaminophen and hydrochloride pills, methamphetamine, cocaine, and a second firearm, according to the release.

Kelm was arrested on preliminary charges of Level 4 felony possession of methamphetamine; Level 5 felony dealing in methamphetamine; two counts of Level 5 felony possession of a narcotic drug; unlawful carrying of a handgun; Level 6 felony possession of a legend drug; Level 6 felony dealing in a legend drug; Level 6 felony identity deception; and Class A misdemeanor driving while suspended prior.

All charges are merely accusations, and Kelm is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Photos of the booking, K-9 Figo and seized evidence were referenced in the release.
