MH man who tried to outrun the law enters plea

A Mountain Home man accused of hitting the gas instead of the brakes resulting in a pursuit with speeds reaching in excess of 100-miles-per-hour appeared during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court last Monday.Mountain Home attorney Paul Bayless represents 53-year-old Angelo Grosso and he appeared for his client, waived arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty to Grosso’s charges, including fleeing, reckless driving, speeding and improper passing.
He is free on $5,000 bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit a Baxter County sheriff’s deputy was traveling on State Highway 201 South on September 29 when he saw a red sports bike heading toward him. He reported hearing “the loud ping of my radar” which showed the bike traveling 91-miles-per-hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone.

The deputy turned around and attempted to catch the motorcycle and when he did get close enough, he activated his emergency lights and siren.

Grosso, who was later identified as the operator, is reported to have turned his head to look at the patrol car. He is alleged to have then looked forward and accelerated instead of stopping.

Grosso was reported to be passing other vehicles by using the lane meant for on-coming traffic.

The chase eventually wound up on State Highway 5 South and only ended when Grosso reached Norfork where he pulled over.

The deputy reported holding Grosso at gunpoint and ordered him to lie on his stomach and put his hands behind his back. He is reported to have complied.

He was put in hand restraints and taken to the Baxter County Detention Center.
