City-County Councilor Michael-Paul Hart confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the mall property is for sale, although details are limited. The listing price is currently unclear.
However, what the councilor did confirm is that every piece of the property owned by Durga Property Holdings is now available for purchase.
“Everything is for sale,” Hart said in an interview with FOX59/CBS4.
Once a popular destination for Hoosier shoppers, the mall property along E. Washington Street has more recently become a hotspot for crime and ruin.
A shooting inside the mall in 2015 injured three people, including two innocent bystanders. In 2016, several teens were arrested after a disturbance inside the shopping center.
Two people were injured in another shooting last year, this time just outside the mall. A few months later, an alleged carjacking in the mall parking lot led to a police chase and crash.
Repeated efforts to revitalize the mall have been unsuccessful. In 2013, FOX59/CBS4 spoke with a new manager of the mall who hoped to revive the once-proud shopping center. Those efforts later stalled.
Now, Hart says he hopes to bring new businesses to the mall property, which will hopefully revive the center to its former glory.
