Indiana Department of Homeland Security receives weather radio grant

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) has been awarded $150,000 for weather radios through FEMA’s Next Generation Warning System Grant Program (NGWS).

Officials say NGWS will help support a reliable, resilient and consistent capability for local, state and federal public safety officials to deliver timely public warning and emergency information. Weather radios provide weather information directly from the National Weather Service, as well as other emergency information, and can function without cell service or power.

IDHS says it will prioritize distributing NOAA Weather Radios to high-risk areas across Indiana, such as flood plains, riverfronts, mobile home communities, campgrounds and industrial zones near waterways.
