Drunk driver arrested after fiery crash in Ogle County

CHANA, Ill. (WTVO) — Ogle County police arrived at the scene of a car that had rolled over and was on fire after a crash on Saturday, and arrested an Oregon man on charges of drunk driving.

According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene in the 5000 block of E. Illinois Route 64 around 8:16 p.m.

The investigation revealed that Clifford Lancaste, 40, was traveling westbound and lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve, veering off the north side of the roadway, overturning at least once before coming to a stop in the ditch, where the car burst into flames, police said.

Lancaste was able to get out of the car without injury.

He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and operating an uninsured vehicle.

Lancaste was processed at the Ogle County Jail and then released with a notice to appear at a future court date, authorities said.
