From 6 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Saturday, officers will be on a statewide patrol identifying and arresting impaired drivers before they cause harm.

“Impaired driving destroys lives, and even one life lost is one too many,” CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee said. “This Halloween, we’re asking everyone to do their part before the festivities begin, arrange a sober ride and help us keep California’s roads safe for everyone who uses them.”
Officials said that more than 800 fatal DUI crashes kill around 900 people each year in the state.
Last year’s CHP Halloween MEP resulted in over 500 crash investigations, with 90 involving impaired drivers. CHP said there were two deaths, more than 60 injuries and nearly 120 DUI arrests.
CHP reminds drivers that DUI includes driving under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs and cannabis products.

Meanwhile, officers ask drivers to ensure everyone’s safety by making the right choices:
“Whether it’s Halloween or any night of the year, the decision to drive sober can save a life,” Commissioner Duryee added. “Together, we can make our roads safer and prevent tragedies before they happen.”
Those who witness a DUI driver are asked to call 911.
