ASU junior kicker Clune Van Andel was named Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 9 of Sun Belt Conference play.
He tallied up 10 points during the Red Wolves’ 34-24 home victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday night. The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native accumulated two field goals and four extra points.
Van Andel got both of his field goal attempts and was 4-for-4 on his PATs.
Van Andel joined the Red Wolves in 2023 and appeared in all 13 of ASU’s games last year as the only field goal kicker for the team.
He earned Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year honors after he finished last season 21-for-25 in field goal attempts. ASU officials said he made a program record of 17 consecutive field goals.
During Week 6, Red Wolves quarterback Jaylen Raynor was named the Sun Belt’s Offensive Player of the Week after a narrow 31-30 victory over Texas State.
South Alabama Linebacker Tirrell Johnson, a native of Wynne, Arkansas, also got Sun Belt honors, being named Defensive Player of the Week after the Jaguars squared off with Georgia State on Thursday and won 38-31.
During the game, Johnson forced a fumble and locked in a win for the Jaguars with an interception with just over a minute of play left.
