Alleged shooter in September murder of LeNorris Leonard Jr., was out on bond awaiting sentencing in unrelated assault
Jamarie Leonard is facing murder and aggravated assault charges in the September shooting death of 33-year-old LeNorris Boyd Jr., in a South Phenix City apartment complex.
During the Aniah’s Law hearing, District Court Judge Walter Gray found there was significant evidence to hold Boyd without bond.
The Sept. 29 shooting happened at Brookwood Apartments near the Chattahoochee Valley Community College campus. Leonard had been a fugitive for more than a month until he was apprehended by U.S. marshals last Thursday in Eufaula, Alabama.
According to court testimony on Monday, the shooting started with an argument between two women. The women were the significant others of Leonard and Boyd.
Police say Leonard shot Boyd and Boyd’s fiancée, Tishera Wilson, with an AR-style rifle during the altercation.
There were multiple witnesses during and after the event. Two of the witnesses were children who, police say, went down to the scene after the shots were fired.
They told police they saw Leonard telling Boyd to “gag.”
At the time of the shooting, Leonard was awaiting sentencing in front of Judge Gray on assault, first-degree, and other charges.
Leonard had entered a guilty plea on Sept. 22, a week before the fatal shooting. He was scheduled to be sentenced early next month.
At the time of the shooting, Leonard was free on bond.
