What Halloween costumes are trending in Utah this year?

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Across the state, people are preparing for Halloween. ABC4 has compiled a list of some of the most popular Halloween costumes in 2025, according to Google’s FrightGeist trends.

It looks like Salt Lake City may be continuing the “KPop Demon Hunters” craze through Halloween. The animated movie was released over the Summer and immediately captivated a wide variety of fans.

While it’s been a few months since its release, you may be seeing a lot of people dressed up as characters from “KPop Demon Hunters” this October. According to search data compiled by Google’s FrightGeist trends, four of the five top trending costumes in the Salt Lake City area are related to the movie.

Here’s a look at that list:

1. Rumi from “KPop Demon Hunters”
2. Zoey from “KPop Demon Hunters”
3. Labubu
4. Mira from “KPop Demon Hunters”
5. Baby Saja from “KPop Demon Hunters”

Labubu, a plush toy by PopMart, also made the top five list for the Salt Lake City area, which indicates that some residents are planning to dress up as the adorable dolls for Halloween.

Notably, this list doesn’t guarantee the top costume options for Halloween but does show which costumes and characters have been searched more often than others this year compared to last year’s searches.

“Search interest in costumes spike every October on Google, and Google Trends provides a unique look into how people are preparing for the Halloween season,” Google explained about the FrightGeist data collection methods. “Trending lists are calculated based on year over year comparing September 2025 to September 2024 search interest in the United States.”

KPop Demon Hunters will be showing at AMC, Cinemark, and Regal movie theaters in Utah over Halloween weekend and attendees are encouraged to dress up, which could also be contributing to the high search rates.

Either way, there is a high chance you will see KPop Demon Hunter’s animated characters on the big screen and in your neighborhood this Halloween, and you may see some life-size Labubus.

National Trends

On a national basis, Frightgeist records the most popular Halloween-related searches for overall costumes, kid and dog costumes, duo costumes, makeup, and decor.

Chicken Jockey, which is from the Minecraft movie, reached an all-time high in search results throughout the United States, indicating a popular trend from this year and a possible costume option.

Additionally, Labubus and costumes for Elphaba and Glinda from “Wicked” have been among the top searches in the nation. Supergirl and Superman were also trending, though some of those searches may have been linked to the recently-released movie.

Here are some other costume and outfits that made the top 25 searched costumes:

• “Orange full body suit” was a top trending search, and the Lorax ranked #10 for overall costumes.
• “Hamilton” and “Founding Father” were both popular searches, though there was a TikTok trend in which people dressed up and lip-synced to the musical’s songs.
• Wednesday ranked #23 for overall costumes and #4 for Halloween-related makeup. A new season of the TV show was also released recently.
• “Derpy the Tiger,” a character from “KPop Demon Hunters,” ranked well for overall costumes, kid costumes, and dog costumes.
• Astrid and Hiccup from “How to Train Your Dragon” ranked #1 for couples’ costumes.
