San Francisco man arrested in fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A man alleged to have been driving under the influence fatally struck a pedestrian Sunday in San Francisco and fled the scene, authorities said. On Monday, the San Francisco Police Department announced that the suspect, identified as Hai Van Le, 47, of San Francisco, had been found and arrested.

Le was booked into the San Francisco County Jail for gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence causing injury, felony hit and run and elder abuse.

Le’s arrest comes after police responded at 6:44 p.m. to the 1800 block of Ocean Avenue on the report of a hit-and-run collision involving a pedestrian. Arriving officers located the pedestrian suffering from life-threatening injuries and began to render aid. Despite efforts from first responders, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers investigating the hit-and-run crash located the vehicle and Le later that night near the 500 block of Shields Street, SFPD said.
