The Lathrop Police Department said it was conducting a traffic stop at McKinley Avenue and Lathrop Road when K-9 Officer Valker located more than 100 pounds of illegal fireworks in the bed of the pickup truck.
The driver, Julian Ruiz, was arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail. He faces charges related to felony possession of fireworks.
“With the holidays approaching, the Lathrop Police reminds everyone to celebrate responsibly and follow the law,” LPD said. “Illegal fireworks are dangerous, they can cause serious injuries, start fires, and endanger entire neighborhoods. Let’s keep our community safe and enjoyable for everyone.”
