According to a warrant filed by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, 56-year-old Steven Daryl Stell of Raleigh is accused of firing a handgun into the ground while threatening to kill a man on Saturday.
Stell is charged with the misdemeanor offenses of going armed to the terror of people, communicating threats, discharging a firearm in county limits, and injury to real property, according to the warrant.
Court records show Stell was released on Sunday on a written promise to appear. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Carteret County Court on Jan. 8.
The sheriff’s office confirmed Stell is a North Carolina State Capitol officer.
Stell was previously a lieutenant with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.
