Man rescued after driving into pond in Columbus park
Officers with the Columbus Police Department were dispatched around 9:18 a.m. to a report of a personal injury accident at Mill Race Park near Carl Miske Drive and Indianapolis Road. While officers were en route, the caller informed them that they had observed a vehicle crash into a nearby pond.
CPD said officers arrived on the scene and were met with a silver Ford Taurus that was partially submerged in the water. An officer and a firefighter immediately dove into the water and attempted to rescue the driver.
Once additional units arrived, they used ropes to pull the vehicle toward the bank. First responders then broke a window and rescued the driver from the water while the vehicle was still floating.

CPD said preliminary information indicates the driver experienced some type of medical issue before the incident that caused them to lose control of their vehicle and exit the roadway. The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The Columbus Fire Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
