Food spill cleanup completed in Topeka creek: KDHE

Context: The above video aired on Friday, Oct. 24.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – State health officials have removed a stream advisory for a creek in Topeka following a food spill last Friday.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment posted an update on Oct. 27 stating that a stream advisory for Deer Creek is now rescinded. The stream advisory concerned the area near 10th Street and Southeast Deer Creek Parkway.

The KDHE reported that non-hazardous food-grade material spilled into the creek, prompting health officials to issue the advisory. The KDHE said the spill was contained to the initial area and cleanup operations there are now concluded.

People and pets may reenter the water if they choose following the removal of the stream advisory.
