The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office was called just after 2 a.m. Monday to the 5600 block of North 231 for a single-car crash. Upon arrival at the crash site, which is in northwestern Tippecanoe County, deputies found a car that had run off the roadway and caught fire.
Investigators said a passenger car traveling north on US 231 left the east side of the street and ran into a concrete post. The car then caught fire as a result of the impact.
One person was reportedly pronounced dead on the scene as a result of the crash. Two other people inside the car were seriously injured and taken to the hospital for treatment, police said.
The Sheriff’s Office is now “actively investigating” the cause of the crash and working to identify the involved victims. At this time, no occupants have been identified.
TCSO said other agencies helped in the investigation, including Otterbein Fire Department, TEAS, Indiana State Police, West Lafayette Police Department and the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office. No other information was immediately provided by police.
