SHENANDOAH – “For us, it’s a game. For her, it’s a battle.”

This phrase could be seen throughout Veterans Memorial Stadium as two rivals met on the gridiron Friday night and a woman’s battle with cancer intertwined the two communities.

Leanne Hall is a Shenandoah Valley graduate and a faculty member at Mahanoy Area.

The two schools’ football squads met Friday in the annual rivalry matchup and each school used the game as a catalyst for a fundraiser to help Hall and her family.

T-shirts were sold in the weeks leading up to the game, many of which were worn during the school day at both schools.

At the game, coaches, cheerleaders, and more from both schools wore the shirts, reading “Together, we fight” on the front.

A sizable banner also adorned the grandstand.

At pregame, the Shenandoah Quarterback Club presented a check to Hall’s children with the proceeds from their fundraising efforts.

A large contingent of friends, family members, and community members all gathered in support as well.

Earlier in the day Friday, members of each school’s community adorned their t-shirts during the school day.
