Shots fired in Kroger parking lot on east side of Indianapolis; IMPD investigating

INDIANAPOLIS — Shots were fired in a Kroger parking lot on the east side of Indianapolis Sunday afternoon.

Public emergency reporting systems indicate officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the Kroger located at 4445 E. 10th St. around 12:52 p.m. to look into a report of shots fired.

FOX59/CBS4 sent a crew to the scene of the shooting. When that crew arrived, it found police putting crime scene tape up around the Kroger’s parking lot.

A public police report indicates investigators recovered 14 shell casings at the scene. One of the Kroger store’s windows also sustained approximately $1,000 in damage during the incident, according to IMPD’s report.

FOX59/CBS4’s crew at the scene also found at least one car that was damaged by gunfire during the shooting:

IMPD officers at the scene also indicated that they do not believe anybody was struck by the gunfire. Sources familiar with the investigation told FOX59/CBS4 that the shooting involved two people who were walking through the Kroger’s parking lot and individuals who drove past the store in a red SUV.

IMPD’s report on the shooting indicates four suspects may have been involved in the incident. The report also suggests at least two people witnessed the shooting.

In an email sent to FOX59/CBS4, Kroger public relations personnel reported that the shooting “has nothing to do with the store.”

“Our team is working with the police on the investigation,” a Kroger spokesperson wrote in their prepared statement. “And we will defer to the detectives to provide updates on the matter.”

Police told FOX59/CBS4 they are reviewing video of the shooting that was captured by surveillance cameras. IMPD’s report does not identify any suspects or persons of interest who may have been connected to the shooting. The report does not indicate whether or not IMPD has detained or arrested any suspects at this point in its investigation of the shooting.
