ATHENS, Ohio (WOWK) — An Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) trooper and a Scioto County teen were among the three people injured in a crash in Athens Township Saturday night.

A release from the OSHP said the crash occurred on U.S. Route 50 just west of Hooper Road around 11:49 p.m.

The release said a 47-year-old Athens man was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes when his vehicle struck a marked OSHP cruiser head-on. It then struck another vehicle operated by a 19-year-old from Minford that was also travelling westbound.

It is suspected that the Athens man was impaired at the time of the crash.

The Athens man was transported by Athens County EMS for non-life-threatening injuries while the OHSP trooper driving the cruiser was transported, treated and released with minor injuries. The teen was treated for a minor injury on scene and released.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

OSHP troopers were on scene alongside the Athens Police Department, Athens County Fire Department, Richland Area Fire Department, Athens County EMS and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
