New River Gorge access road closed until spring after ‘failure’

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. (WBOY) — An access road to New River Gorge National Park and Preserve has been closed for safety after a “failure of road” at a construction sight.

According to a Facebook post by the park, the Cunard access road, just past the Brooklyn Miner trailhead, closed Saturday. Photo’s attached to the Facebook post appear to show a large slip in the road.

“Ongoing efforts to repair the road will continue in an effort to open the road by next spring,” the park said.

Both the Brooklyn Miner and Kaymoor trails are still open at this time. Any updates will be posted on the New River Gorge Facebook page.
