Motorcyclist killed in overnight crash in Cedar City, police say

CEDAR CITY, Utah (ABC4) — A 47-year-old man died in a motorcycle crash in Cedar City early Saturday morning.

Sgt. Kirk Lovell with the Cedar City Police Department said someone discovered the wreck shortly after midnight near the intersection of 100 West and Coal Creek Road.

Responding officers found the motorcycle on the ground and the rider unresponsive, with significant injuries. Lovell said the man had been wearing a helmet, but it came off during the crash.

Investigators believe a high rate of speed was likely a factor. The Utah Office of the Medical Examiner is working to determine whether impairment contributed to the crash.

Lovell said the investigation remains active and no additional details are being released at this time.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
