K-9 search uncovers stolen car, drugs in Monroe County
K-9 search uncovers stolen car, drugs in Monroe County
MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — An Oaktown man was arrested on Saturday after a traffic stop in Monroe County.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, around 1:17 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop with a 2005 Red Ford F-250 that appeared to be stolen from a person in Sullivan County.

The driver, 24-year-old Dawson Kelm, was arrested on multiple charges after police found a firearm on him.

While he was being detained, a search of the vehicle was performed by K-9 Figo and his handler.

Figo’s search led to several narcotics being found, including fentanyl pills, alprazolam pills, acetaminophen and hydrochloride pills, methamphetamine, cocaine, and another firearm.

Kelm is preliminarily facing the following charges:

  • Possession of Methamphetamine — Level 4 Felony
  • Dealing in Methamphetamine — Level 5 Felony
  • Possession of a Narcotic Drug — Level 5 Felony x 2
  • Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun — charge type unspecified by MCSO
  • Possession of a Legend Drug — Level 6 Felony
  • Dealing In a Legend Drug — Level 6 Felony
  • Identity Deception — Level 6 Felony
  • Driving While Suspended Prior — Class A Misdemeanor

Kelm was taken to the Monroe County Correctional Center, where his behavior was not compliant enough to get a booking photo.
