Driver crashes into apartment on north side of Indianapolis
According to a Facebook post from the Indianapolis Fire Department, first responders were called to an apartment in the 2000 block of Amerherst Drive — which is located off of West 71st Street — around 1:05 p.m. When IFD crews arrived at the scene, they located a vehicle that had been crashed into an apartment.

IFD reported that the apartment’s occupant was not home at the time of the crash. The driver of the crashed vehicle was checked out by medics at the scene and released, according IFD.
After speaking with witnesses, investigators determined the motorist involved in the incident drove more than 500 yards before crashing into the apartment in question. The motorist reportedly drove through two parking lots, over a hill and through a wooden utility fence before crashing.
A wrecker operator pulled the vehicle out of the apartment it had been crashed into. IFD’s structure collapse team then used a two-post vertical shore to stabilize the damaged portion of the apartment.
IFD reported that the apartment complex’s management team is working to find shelter for the damaged unit’s occupant.
Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the crash.
