CHICAGO (WGN) — A man is dead and another is recovering in the hospital after a shooting and crash on the city’s West Side early Saturday morning.

According to police, the incident unfolded just before 5:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of West Augusta Boulevard in Humboldt Park.

The officer said the victims, a 37-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, were traveling westbound in a red Dodge Charger in the area when an unknown individual opened fire on the vehicle. Amid the gunfire, the charger crashed.

Officers said the 37-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his back and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The 29-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his head and was hospitalized in critical condition.

It remains unclear what led up to the shooting and officers said no arrests have been made.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim killed and an investigation is ongoing.
