Prominent Abilene church gets approval to use golf carts during major renovations

Pioneer Drive Baptist Church on Pioneer Drive is preparing to demolish their sanctuary.

While the reconstruction project is underway, the church will be using golf carts to transport people to and from their services on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Pastor Dr. John Whitten described how the renovations will affect church-goings, saying, “during construction phase. . .access to our sanctuary will be significantly disrupted, parking will be farther away, sidewalks will be impacted and the walk from the car to the sanctuary will be longer and more difficult for our seniors, many of whom use walkers, wheelchairs or who have limited mobility. This presents a vary real change for them.” 

There is currently no timeline on the renovation project.
