
According to the Hogle Zoo, Diego was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in 2024. Following his diagnosis, Diego worked with a team to receive treatments. Some of the treatments included laser therapy, medications, training adjustments, and habitat evaluations.
On Monday, the Hogle Zoo shared that Diego had a sudden decrease in his appetite and behavior. Despite focused care and treatment, Diego’s condition was not improving. The animal care and veterinary teams made the hard decision to euthanize Diego.
The Hogle Zoo shared that Diego will be remembered for his loud vocalizations, curious personality, and strong bonds with his care team. He had a strong personality and enjoyed playing games.
