Arizona man arrested after allegedly pulling out a chainsaw during a traffic stop

COLORADO CITY, Arizona (ABC4) — Officers arrested a man for allegedly threatening an officer and using an electric chainsaw on a patrol vehicle.

According to the Colorado City-Hildale City Police Department, they arrested a man, identified as David Lawrance Stubbs Jr., earlier this week, after he allegedly escalated a traffic stop and damaged a patrol vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest.

On October 20, 2025, around 8:25 p.m., a Colorado City-Hildale City officer conducted a traffic stop for a traffic infraction in Colorado City, Arizona. The driver, identified as Stubbs, reportedly refused to prove his driver’s license or exit the vehicle.

The officer also learned that Stubbs had an active felony warrant in Arizona.

Stubbs allegedly escalated the situation, resisting the arrest. He also threatened the officer with physical harm. Reportedly, the officer created distance between themselves and the suspect before deploying a taser.

The taser was ineffective, and Stubbs allegedly grabbed an electric chainsaw from his vehicle while threatening the officer.

In response, the officer moved further away and held Stubbs at gunpoint while ordering him to drop the chainsaw and submit to the arrest. The press release says Stubbs proceeded to use the chainsaw to damage the front-passenger side of the officer’s patrol vehicle.

He then reportedly fled the scene in his own vehicle.

Officers from the Colorado City-Hildale City Police Department and from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office worked to locate Stubbs. A Sheriff’s Deputy was able to contact him, but Stubbs reportedly resisted arrest again.

Then, a Colorado City-Hildale City Officer deployed a taser, which was effective that time. Law enforcement was able to take him into custody.

Stubbs was booked into the Mohave County Correctional Facility on multiple crimes, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, escape, two counts of resisting arrest, criminal damage, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

He is also facing charges for his active felony case, though police did not disclose what those charges were.
