5 kilos of cocaine seized, 2 Rockford men arrested in drug bust

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Two men, suspected of distributing large amounts of cocaine in the Rockford area, were arrested on Thursday, authorities said.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit said two separate investigations ultimately led to the arrests.

Fernando Aviles, 38, was taken into custody in the 4000 block of Morsay Drive. During a search of his vehicle, authorities said they found 2 kilograms of cocaine.

Alexsandro Cervantes-Huerta, 24, was arrested later that day in the 7800 block of East State Street. Deputies said approximately 3 kilograms of cocaine were found in his vehicle.

Both men are charged with possession with intent to deliver over 900 grams of cocaine.

Both men are in custody in the Winnebago County Jail, awaiting the outcome of pretrial detention hearings.
