Farhana Ali and her husband spent Wednesday unpacking their RV. Ali said although this is not their first time attending the Magic City Classic game, it is their first time tailgating for the event.
“We usually are in the skyboxes, but this year my husband he just wanted to do, do it big,” said Ali. “It’s been a smooth process so far. This morning, we brought the RV in and then now we’re just bring our golf cart.”
Jawand Croom is another first-time tailgater of the event.
“It’s been nice getting out here enjoying the crowds. The set up is really easy. I just had to get out here early because I’m hauling this dooly and this camper, and if I wait to the last minute, I won’t get my spot,” said Croom.
Just a few feet away from Croom’s RV, the music began flowing at Gary Birdstone’s RV.
“I’ve been out here since 8 o’clock this morning, and we’ve just been doing it for years, so we just come out to tailgate,” said Birdstone.
Although kickoff isn’t until Saturday, the grills are already hot, and festivities are underway at Alabama State alumnus DeAndre Herron’s tent.
“We’ve been doing this probably 12 years now, in the same spot at that, so it’s been great every year. Every year it gets better.” said Herron.
Security measures are in place in the tailgate lots at Legion Field. Several Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and safety posts are stationed throughout the area to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe.
