Ogden police Department (OPD) announced today that they took a second suspect into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Mason Caballero on October 7, 2025.
This suspect, a juvenile, was taken into custody in Denver, Colorado, by local Colorado law enforcement. He has since been transported to Utah and is awaiting charges in a juvenile detention center in Utah.
OPD will not be identifying the suspect due to his age and have not yet stated what charges the juvenile is facing.
This is the second juvenile suspect to have been arrested, after Isaias Emanuel Carranza was arrested on October 11, 2025. Ogden Police Department say that no additional suspects are outstanding at this time.
Case History
On October 7, 2025, around 2:45 p.m., Ogden Police Department responded to a shooting near 5th Street and Gramercy Avenue, where they found a juvenile, later identified as Mason Caballero had been shot.
Investigators learned that a Nissan versa entered the area of the school and that the driver and passenger were looking for help for Cabellero, who was sitting in the back seat when he was shot.
Caballero was treated by faculty and staff at Ben Lomond High School but died as a result of his injuries. Ben Lomond and other nearby schools all went into “secure” status as a precaution, though it was later lifted.
According to witnesses and video surveillance, a black vehicle, later identified as a Cadillac CTS had begun to shoot at the Nissan near 5th and Gramercy Avenue. As the Nissan driver drove away, the shots reportedly “increased in number and speed”.
One of the shots struck Caballero and another narrowly missed the driver. Law enforcement officers were able to identify Isaias Emanuel Carranza as a suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest on October 10, 2025.

On October 11, 2025, law enforcement were able to take Carranza into custody, though they did not specify the details surrounding his arrest.
Carranza is facing numerous charges, including one count of aggravated murder (first-degree felony), two counts of attempted aggravated murder (first-degree felony), 25 counts of felony discharge of firearm (first-degree felony), and one count of possession of dangerous weapon by minor (second-degree felony). These offenses are further enhanced by gang enhancement, offense committed in or on the premises of a school zone, and use of a dangerous weapon.
