Mom’s Today: Choosing and installing the right car seat
Choosing the right car seat for your little one can be overwhelming enough but then comes the installation. Josh Dilts, a child passenger safety technician at Chicco demonstrated the proper way to install a car seat to ensure your child’s safety.

A top question amongst parents is when to switch from an infant car seat to a convertible car seat.

“Most children are going to outgrow their infant car seat in height so you always want to make sure you’re paying attention to the top of their head is getting roughly around a little less than more than an inch to the top of the headrest shell,” said Josh.

When it comes to installing, the proper recline is most important.

“You always want to do, we call it the inch test so basically I just secured it at the right recline and I’m just going to put my hands at the belt path and can I move the car seat one inch side to side, front to back…no I can’t. I’ve installed this correctly.”
