Bows of Love Annunciation memorial
A group is asking Minneapolis residents to donate their bows, which were put up in the wake of the Annunciation Church shooting earlier this year.
Following the Aug. 27 shooting, which injured 30 people and killed two children, Minneapolis residents put out green and blue “Bows of Love” throughout the city to show solidarity and support.
Now, as winter approaches, an organization is hoping to collect the ribbons to create a memorial to Annunciation before they are removed or blown away.
“Bows of Love” is the organization seeking the ribbons, according to the city of Minneapolis. The organization said it is hoping to repurpose the ribbons into “something new and a beautiful reminder of how big our community’s love really is.”
The city of Minneapolis is encouraging residents who have ribbons to take them down before Oct. 31, when public works crews may begin collecting any remaining bows found on public property or on the ground.
The city said it will not proactively remove bows it comes across, but the ribbons might be taken down along regular public works or maintenance routes so they don’t interfere with street sweepers or snowplows. This includes those on trees and light poles.
Ribbons on private property will not be removed by the city.
Those who wish to donate their ribbons or help with collection efforts are asked to contact Bows of Love. Donations should not be made at Annunciation as there is no room to store them.
An official drop-off location has not been listed at this time; updates on the collection can be found on the Bows of Love Facebook page.
