Golfers gear up at the Pro Shop at Black Desert

IVINS, Utah (ABC4) — As many attend the Bank of Utah golf championship in Ivins, a golf gear shop is preparing for crowds.

The Bank of Utah Championship is hosting a professional golf competition in Southern Utah, and golfers and fans are flocking to the Black Desert Resort. Before they show off their golf skills, though, they’re showing off their outfits at the Pro Shop.

The Pro Shop at Black Desert has professional golf gear and customizable items. As tournament week kicks off, it is one of the busiest spots at the resort, requiring significant work for staff members.

“Lots of planning goes [in], involves lots of staffing so we can make sure we’re getting with each guest at certain touchpoints,” said Colby Cowan, the Director of Golf at Black Desert, “Different customization items we’ve had as well, which has been a big hit so far.”

The Pro Shop allows for visitors to personalize their hats and putter fittings, and it also has limited-edition shoes. Colby said, “Custom patches on hats and we’ve had a custom shoe wear piece here as well. Adidas is here. Ben Nardi with putters.”

The process for a customized hat is pretty simple, according to Jordan Griggs with Greyson Clothiers.

“You come here; you pick a blank hat. We’ve got multiple colors, multiple different fits. Then you pick a patch of your choice,” Griggs said, “We press it right in the spot for you. If you want to get creative and fancy, you can do multiple logos.”

All of this helps give the shop and resort a tour-level feel, for both professional golfers and fans of the sport, and Cowan says the shop is stocked with everything visitors could need.

Colby says the shop has “dress shirts for men, ties, swimwear for everyone. So, we try to bring it all encompassing so someone staying at the resort can find something that they can take home.”

And, of course, the Pro Shop has a putting green inside the shop, which allows visitors to test out new putters before taking it out.

“They want to be able to feel it in their hesitant to buy a putter, if they can’t get a true feel of what it’s going to be like for them when they’re on the golf course. So, for them to come in and experience it and try it out is something that most places don’t offer,” Cowan said.
