Fort Worth ISD to undergo state takeover and leadership change

FORT WORTH (KFDX/KJTL) — On Thursday, October 23, the Texas Education Agency notified Fort Worth Independent School District of a state takeover.

According to a video posted to FWISD’s Facebook page, the transition will begin immediately with the appointment of a state board under the guidance of TEA.

Dr. Karen Molinar, current FWISD Superintendent, outlined the letter received by the district.

A conservator will also be named to ensure the district supports its low-performing campuses.

Commissioner Mike Morath will also appoint a Superintendent, whom Dr. Molinar said she would be one of the candidates.

Dr. Molinar also said the reform in place aligns with TEA and will continue.

“We must remain committed to the daily delivery of high-quality instruction for our students,” Molinar said, adding that progress has already been seen on every campus across the district.

A YouTube live is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Thursday to release more details about the takeover.
